Unique features in designing a weather website as a class project

I am not sure here is the best place to ask design questions. I apologize if I asked made a mistake.

I am taking intelligent user interface class and we are required to deliver a term/class project that demonstrates the understanding of fundamental subjects in this area.

I am always fascinated with weather websites and their design (the way the present the data). However, there are so many weather websites available and every possible feature (such as map, recent photo of that given area, search by zip code and/or city name and many more) has already been implemented.

I am wondering it would be great if I could get some suggestions about features that would make a weather website unique (Possibly, something to be used at the campus and by the students to make it relevant). Again, this is term project and I am a student, I can't afford expensive weather API subscriptions.

I have experience with Javascript and node.js. As a first attempt, I started by writing a simple weather website using forcast.io's free APIs and I quickly ran out of features/ideas.

Any help/idea would be great.

Thank you.
