how to visualize an architectural design pattern

I am curious on how to visualize an algorithm or a design pattern , so that i can look at the diagram and understand the design pattern like singleton and UOW etc.I have looked at the UML but i think it is more directed towards domain modeling and not architectural modeling of the code.
