"Tell don't ask" principe conflits with MVVM?

I have a Android project using MVVM structure. The View and Model layers are well separated.

But acccording to "Tell don't ask" principe, a model should know how to draw itself.

So I'm wondering how to do in this case? "Tell don't ask" seems to violate the MVVM (or MVC) pattern?
