Extends Vs Import in Angular and Javascript

When and why would you use Extends and when will you use Import? what is the difference between them? Do they basically do the same thing and give the same functionality?

Does it matter if the component being imported is also @injected? How does this change the way it behaves (aka between importing a non @injected component and @injected component?
