I am looking for purchasing this book but are the concepts in this book still relevant today? i am a java developer and i see new concepts every year.

my doubt is not if i am going to waste my money but rather if i am going to invest time learning outdated concept.
disclaimer: I am a self taught java programmer and I have never had any formal training in any technology or concepts. I figured i should improve my skills if i want to move ahead.
