Does dependecy injection needs the interface in another project/layer?

This question is about concepts and good practices mainly.

If I'm using dependency injection do I need to use my interfaces in different projects/layers than the one i'm using for my controllers or business logic?

Or is it valid if the interfaces are in the same project?

What are the good practices for developing a new project with dependecy injection?
