RegEx Patterns with Input example

I am trying to use re to count every form of a pattern in a string.

For this example I want to receive two inputs 1st Input: CruCruCru 2nd input: Cru output: 3

or

1st Input: RaRaRaR 2nd input: RaR output: 3
