Pull design pattern for XSLT transformation

I have 2 .xsl files which describe XSLT transformations for the same XML. They are linked through pull design pattern. I've tried to follow the flow of the transformations, but because I am new to XSLT transformations, I didn't understand too much about this design pattern. All I want to understand is how this design pattern is working.
