Is MVC in php obsolete?

So I'm currently starting a new project and I have never been into OOP deeply, and I started with using the MVC pattern since it is simple and straightforward, but I have seen some articles in the web talking about MVC being an outdated and obsolete pattern. Is that the case? And if yes, what other better alternatives are there?
