Can I use a java book's knowledge for android developing? more specific detail in post

I've bought a java book about software analisys and design and java patterns design. I've began to learn android software development in my last period, and among my googling I've got that android development has their specific patterns design. My question is: is it same useful to study java patterns design, so I can applicate them to android development, or I must consulte a specific android book? thanks for answers
