Is the Active Record in Codeigniter called Database Abstraction?

I have made new DB and database abstraction layer. DB part is not big problem to me. However, there is one thing I confused.

Can Active Record replace database abstraction layer ? Even if DB driver was configured as PDO, but I only used active record instead of PDO

Could you make me sure that Codeigniter Active Record is one of Database Abstraction Layer ?
