Unified Process , UML and Design Patterns , what should I learn first?

Hi guys I'm a software engineering student and I have always been interested about UML , UP and Design Patterns(GoF), so I decided to learn them this summer . that'z when i had a rough time deciding , what should I learn first. I understand the difference between each one, UML is a language to facilitate the solution reading , another programmer would understand my solution easily. Unified Process is an iterative way of developing software and the Design Patterns are proven solutions to software developing problems( minimal coupling & making the overall system easier to understand and maintain) I got three documents on the three topics but the problem is when reading the GoF document i find the writers using UML signs , while reading UML it always refers to UP or RationalUP and when reading UP it looks blurry like i should've read another document before that .

I know this question is unprofessional and I'm sorry for that but I'm really having a rough time to decide It would be really helpful if i know where to start and what comes in the second and third place .
