dinamic adaptee in adapter design pattern java

i'm new in design pattern, i'm doing the Adapter pattern and i would like to know about one things, in the benefits of the adapter pattern with 'object adapter' (using composition) there is one that say: 'In principle,the adaptee could be replaced dinamically' what does it mean? you could give me an example?
